Vande ham sri guruh sri yutah pada kamalam sri gurun vasihnavams ca sri rupam
agrajatam saha gana raghunathanvitam tam sa jivam.

The following is a lecture given by his Holiness Jayapataka Swami on September 7st 1990 in Zurich Switzerland the class begins with the reading from Srimad Bhagavatam 4th Canto Chapter 29 Text 74.

The five sense objects, the five sense organs, the five knowledge-acquiring senses and the mind are the sixteen material expansions. These combine with the living entity and are influenced by the three modes of material nature. Thus the existence of the conditioned soul is understood.

Purport Lord Kṛṣṇa says in Bhagavad-gītā (15.7):

mamaivāṁśo jīva-loke
jīva-bhūtaḥ sanātanaḥ
manaḥ-ṣaṣṭhānīndriyāṇi
prakṛti-sthāni karṣati

“The living entities in this conditioned world are My eternal, fragmental parts. Due to conditioned life, they are struggling very hard with the six senses, which include the mind.”

Here it is also explained that the living entity comes in contact with the sixteen material elements and is influenced by the three modes of material nature. The living entity and this combination of elements combine to form what is called jīva-bhūta, the conditioned soul that struggles hard within material nature. The total material existence is first agitated by the three modes of material nature, and these become the living conditions of the living entity. Thus the subtle and gross bodies develop, and the ingredients are earth, water, fire, air, sky and so on. According to Śrī Madhvācārya, when consciousness, the living force in the heart, is agitated by the three modes of material nature, then the subtle body of the living entity, consisting of the mind, the sense objects, the five senses that acquire knowledge and the five senses for acting in the material condition, becomes possible. Thus ends the Bhaktivedanta Swami translation & purport to the Srimad Bhagavatam Text 74 Canto 4 Chapter 29 entitled Talks between Narada and King Pracinabarhi.

Translation again. “The five sense objects, the five sense organs, the five knowledge-acquiring senses and the mind are the sixteen material expansions. These combine with the living entity and are influenced by the three modes of material nature. Thus the existence of the conditioned soul is understood.”

We can understand our existence in this material world from the proper perspective as explained here in the Srimad Bhagavatam then we can get true understanding of our actual position and the actual position of the material world. We understand that the reason material world was created is in order to give the rebellious soul the opportunity to fulfill their independent desires and to give them an opportunity to eventually return back to devotional service to Krishna. Coming from the spiritual world where there is no duality where everyone is conscious of God, in order to facilitate the rebellious souls desire to independently enjoy therefore Krishna has to cover up his pure consciousness and give him a situation give that soul a situation whereby he can function in a he can create his own little world, so obviously that pure soul is going to have to have something to deal with, something to manipulate, something to control so these are the sense objects. Some objects which are perceivable to a soul bound in a material body so sense objects and then something to perceive those objects with senses or sense organs to manipulate those objects, sense organs and to perceive those objects knowledge acquiring sense organs or senses and then to coordinate all these activities then one needs the mind. So we got five, five, and five and the mind we got sixteen and these are combined with the living entity and the three modes of material nature. In the spiritual world where we have full knowledge, here where in the world we have by definition limited in knowledge, it is just like the scientist have discovered waves that energy travels in wave length, light has different wave lengths which produce different colors red, yellow, blue the seven colors of the visible spectrum, the ultra violet ultra-red which are beyond our vision, then they found that there are many other vibrations, vibrations which are known as short wave, long wave, ultra-high frequency and they are being used in radio, television short wave radio transmissions, micro wave transmissions each wave has its own different characteristics. These waves of energy already existed but the scientist the possibility of those waves existed, so the scientist they started to emit those waves and have apparatus built to receive them and transmit them and then they would see how each different wave length would act, some are good for long distance so those became short wave transmission, some were very good for short distance became short television and other type of transmissions. So apparatus was designed to receive a particular wave length of frequency of wave similarly the sense objects were brought into existence by Krishna and then the senses were adopted to perceive the sense objects what is the use of the senses if you don’t perceive anything it like having a radio but the radio doesn’t tune into any wave length where there is any transmission so these are all simultaneously one after the other you have here the object to perceive, here is the sense object to manipulate and to perceive they are all synchronized. There are many things beyond the range of our senses they are also there, know the scientist have discovered but these things are not essential for us to function in the material world, Krishna has so many other ranges which higher living entity were taking use of now by expanding our essential ability to different mechanism we have been able to tap into other wave length but at least the human body has a certain perception in taste, in touch, in smell, in sight. The perception of the animals is higher you can buy machines which transmit high frequency sound which is supposed to scare away mosquitoes or rodents but the human can’t hear them, we tried it in Mayapur it didn’t work but they advertised it like that, it didn’t work but for the mosquitoes , the mosquitoes went and landed on that machine, maybe in India they have a different wave length of mosquitoes, they thought it was some love call haha and they came a reverse effect but they have whistles you can’t hear but the dogs can hear, this is common knowledge. So each living entities senses are slightly differently tuned they are perceiving things also in a different way they said that even the cats they can see slightly on the subtle plane that’s why sometimes the cats are just watching they are seeing some low level subtle entities floating around if you are walking somewhere and a cat crosses your path it is very bad because lot of times cats are following subtle entities it is being said some ghost just passed your front so better to wait for a second and then go. In the west they say if a black cat crosses but in India any cat crosses, if you see you are driving with a taxi driver suddenly a cat goes across eeegh he will screech to the halt you know make some sign you know something and go back and then he will go these are all superstitions, but there are some basis the cat can see things we can’t see, so the cat is following across maybe it is following some ghost or something some subtle entity who is inauspicious so if we cross that path we may also get some kind of obstruction in our journey so like that all these things are developed. So when this was spoken in a normal, this was being spoken by Narada Muni to King Pracinabarhi he was an ordinary king he doesn’t have extra sense view perception he doesn’t have a scientist to verify all these different things, so things had to be presented very systematically very simply nowadays we have so much time to think, apparatus at our disposal now these things are very well, very easily able to be verified or be tested. Know modern science when they recently come to the conclusion that when they are studying some phenomena that different people see the same thing in different ways, that the personal subjective viewer has also sometimes effect on what you think, both he sees things differently and he may also affect the things he is viewing that there is a different that there is a affect just from the observer they don’t how to explain this but how it is a factor to be considered so all these things are mentioned in the vedas that the living entity, the sense objects, the senses, the knowledge acquiring senses, the mind all these are different factors of material existence. So we created this world, we created this world, not that we created this ourselves Krishna created for us in affect it was our desire to enjoy therefore Krishna created the world, therefore this world is something created for our opportunity to enjoy the senses to experience this world. So the suffering enjoyment that goes on in the world is also due to our own activity, nowadays there is lot of discussion going on why this age is come about this is the most dangerous diseases that people have come across because there is no cure for it and very quickly people die very horrible death and people are very addicted to sense gratification and therefore this diseases is very easily transmitted by type of illicit activities and lot of people are addicted to, so they don’t know how to deal with it. So religiously also people when discussing some people say this is the curse of God because of people being sinners then other religious leaders they come on the television no no this is not a curse of God but what is the actual reason why these things happen, how does God or the Supreme Personality of God head how does he have a part to play in the whole thing this is very clearly mentioned here in Bhagavatam and Bhagavad Gita where Krishna explains in 9th Canto 2nd,3rd,4th verses very clearly explains that although he is creating the material world at the same time he is spread throughout it as “Avyakta Murtina” as the all-pervasive impersonal energy at the same time “na cha avasthitha” I am not present he is not there amongst it although he creates everything at the same time he is aloof. He creates the material world he creates the laws which govern it and then things after that by his energy they are going on automatically. If he wants he can intervene but he doesn’t generally do so he permits things to go on so people are suffering all these different type of disease because of their karama not of specifically some act of God it will go on continuously that people are going to suffer as long as you break the laws of God it is not something personal that he Is taking against any one. Typically the laws of karma are acting in their own way, so intelligent people should know what are the laws of karma and they should avoid acting in such a way that they get smashed by the laws of karma, this makes so much sense so you will find in all eastern especially in vedic and bhuddistic derived religion this idea law of karma is very prominent and people consider what will be a good karma what will be a bad karma. So they try to perform pious activity and avoid impious activity those who are more intelligent. Lord Chaitanya called this is karama kanda some people they want to go beyond the karma kanda of performing good pious activity and avoiding impious activity they want to achieve moksha through transcendental knowledge of the spirit this is called gyana kanda this is considered greater than the karma kanda. Lord Chaitanya he explained “Karma kanda Gyan Kanda sakali visera bandha” that karma kanda and gyana kanda trying to preform good works trying to achieve salvation through transcendental knowledge is these are like pits of poison that the real nectar of life that everyone is searching for is that Krishna prema, love of Krishna, devotional service this is transcendental it is not anything to do with the material world nothing to do with good or bad activities nothing to do with acquiring simply speculative knowledge of oneself this is directly dealing with the transcendental self in relation to the Supreme self. In order to appreciate the glories of Krishna to appreciate the glories of devotional service this is also being given to us here in this Srimad Bhagavatam. What is the material world, how is it created who what is our situation we can understand very clearly categorically this is material therefore devotional service is not material because this is not to do with the sense objects. The devotee is not trying to enjoy objects of the go senses or mental speculation, the devotee is serving Krishna internally because he is part of Krishna because Krishna is pleased therefore internally he is experiencing spiritual bliss, Sep 4th about a year ago when I was supposed to come to Zurich when I was attacked in the hospital, I mean when I was in the hospital I wasn’t attacked in the hospital. So there were lot of physical suffering was their some devotees sent over a tape, a tape sent nectar of devotion by Srila Prabhupada although physically there is constant pain going on excruciating kind of pain on nerves everything got swollen up like anything but still while hearing the Prabhupada lecture nectar of devotion we could feel lot of transcendental bliss and when Shivaram Maharaj & Tamal Krishna Maharaj came with their Nitai Gaur deities in the hospital and there they set up Nitai Gaur deities they are so merciful Nitai Gaur they came to see me in the hospital and the devotees were Vaishnava so kind that so much transcendental bliss although continuously physical suffering was there but internally you could feel spiritual bliss this was the causeless mercy of Gaura Nitai. So we can easily understand that this happiness is not dependent upon material sense gratification in material life if you are suffering you are suffering, everything all happiness is simply depending on what is happening with your senses are the senses in favorable contact with their objects or are they in unfavorable contact or mentally do are you having hope for a future favorable contact with the senses isn’t it. If it is a sunny day people are happy if it is cold lousy day everyone is little bit down but somebody even if he is lousy if he is thinking I am going to meet my girlfriend so he is a little bit happy everything is based on their sensual perception and their mental frame how they are perceiving those immediate and future perceptions or immediate past perceptions but the devotees happiness and distress is not dependent upon these sense perceptions it is above that naturally our body and mind is effected by whatever perceptions especially if they are extreme situations but the devotees experiencing simultaneously with whatever the physical perception a higher level of perception that is the actual spiritual happiness or spiritual bliss different devotee may experience different degree depending on their realization this is the explained also very scientifically in nectar of devotion also by Lord Chaitanya in chaitanya charanamrita the devotees they also experience whether in sankirtan there feet are hurting their legs are hurting their back is hurting sometimes, sometimes their fingers are frozen in the cold their ears are getting hard, physically their suffering various types of unfavorable sensation but when they are giving someone the transcendental literature there feeling some also some special taste some special nectar in spite of so much physical messages are given by the senses you know here is aching there is paining but you are giving out the books and you are feeling spiritual bliss this all dependent on what you are perceiving with your senses. In Bengal there is a common weaving they say “apuna shareera kamunachi” how is your body they don’t say how are you because the self means how are you, you yourself are always ok how is your body and he had to focus for a minute my body is having this and that problem of course most people in body consciousness in Bengal they may think apuna shareer how is your body they think how are you because they are thinking you are the body that is another thing but for the devotee if we hear someone say apuna shareera kyaa how is your body sounds very nice because we know yes that we are not the body how is the body, body is sometimes good sometimes bad but the spirit if we are in Krishna consciousness this always good if we are conscious of the spirit , spirit is ok but the problem is in material consciousness we forget about this so when we do our devotional service this gives us an opportunity to be conscious of ourselves, conscious of Krishna means conscious of also our self because we are part of Krishna. So we are doing our devotional service and sometimes we are doing some austerity in devotional service that time we can clearly see the difference we can experience spiritual happiness at the same time as physically also we are all experiencing some kind of temporary suffering or inconvenience so this is something a non-devotee never experiences but someone who is practicing little bit of devotional service they can taste that devotional service is a different creation, it is a different universe where there is material happiness and distress it is not at all dependent. Madavendra Puri in his old age he was incapacitated you can say he couldn’t move he was physically ill he would just lie in passed urine and stool where he was lying but his consciousness was not focused on his body his consciousness was focused in meditation on Krishna he was chanting in great separation the glories of Krishna “he Mathuranatha” my beloved lord of Mathura “dayatha” the all merciful he was feeling so much separation from Krishna he wasn’t all conscious of the body we are at such a low level we can feel the bodily suffering and also feel a little bliss but these great devotees like Madavendra Puri were not conscious of the body there body is simply being dealt with by Krishna and they are completely absorbed in the transcendental realm. In fact Bhakti Siddhantha Saraswathi Thakur he said whenever I feel I need a shower, I have to brush my teeth this when I come down in my consciousness from my spiritual love of Krishna we are so much in the mode of ignorance we remember to take our bath to brush our teeth we are doing very good at least we have come up to the mode of goodness from ignorance and passion and such devotees like Bhakti Siddhantha Saraswathi Thakur they would be in so much love for Krishna they had to come down to think now it is the time to take a bath but somehow in ecstasy we do so a little bit. Sometimes he would go into the deity room and he would have consultation with Radha and Krishna close the door and discuss with them, we think we can’t imitate but devotees they can experience even by Lord Chaitanya’s mercy even after a few days or months after a short period they can also experience some perceivable change in their consciousness through devotional service. One day I was walking down the street in South India, South India is different then North India many devotees visit Mayapur and Vrindavan but they never went to South India. South India the temples the people they are very much more orthodox, vedic culture is very strong there in fact Bhakti Siddhantha Saraswathi Thakur said if I have to take birth again in this planet I want to take in South India in my next birth and it is predicted also in Bhagavatam that in Kaliyuga many great devotees will appear near rivers alongside the rivers the Tungabadhr, Kaveri rivers of South India. So people there they study actually the Gita, the Bhagavatam very deeply and so sometimes some people come up and say such and such verse in the Bhagavad Gita it says like this what is your explanation coming up verse 7th chapter 24th verse they quote the sanskrit ask you so what is the explanation you either have to know the sanskrit or know all the shloka numbers by heart to get the verse what he is talking about or have the Bhagavad Gita in your side bag. One day I was walking all of a sudden one person came up he said everyone every religion you all have blind faith, is there no religion in the world where without anything still a person can achieve perfection I said yes the devotional service to Krishna consciousness is that process look at Valmiki he was a previous life he was a, early life he was what, he was a criminal, he was a murderer, he was a thief, a dacoit, a bandit he was told to chant the name of God he couldn’t even chant the name of God he said no I can’t chant these type of things you are speaking such type of holy things that cannot come from my mouth I cannot think of them, what to speak couldn’t say, I can’t say Ram, he couldn’t say also so then Narada Muni being all knowing all wise he said well can you chant mara which is a kill mara also is a common Hindi Marathi means to hit, kill mara maro, mara, mara, mara he told him to go on chanting kill, kill, kill yeah I can chant that kill murder, kill murder that was like a all life I am chanting those things you now grab him, kill him cut him into pieces for me this is second nature he wasn’t even thinking of God he was thinking kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, maro, maro, maro, maro, maro, maro, maro, maro, maro, maro, maro, maro, maro but after the 1st sylabel maro maro while speaking he got the vibration Ram, Ram without any consciousness of Ram only consciousness kill, kill, kill but the vibration was so powerful that by chanting that mantra without even consciousness of God simply by the effect of the mantra he became Valmiki, so what other proof you want without any faith in God if you can go on practicing you can get there result, very good, very good thank you very much. So of course later Valmiki he could see everything he could see all the creation of, the pastimes of Ram everything became revealed by the power of the holy name so we are engaging people even though they don’t know anything still simply by getting these books, by engaging in some devotion, by tasting some prasadam there life is changed. I had this one devotee I met in a Canada he is from he is originally Indian origin they call it meaning that he is actually from Guyana but hundreds of year ago the British brought a indentured workers almost like slaves indentured workers to Guyana from Bihar to work there in a sugar factory so he went from there to Canada so for Guyanese to go to Canada is very difficult third world going to Switzerland, Europe or America Canada is a very big thing, he was very proud he told me he was very proud in Canada with suit and tie he would go every day to the bar, pub whatever you call it and he would take rum alcohol and drinks and he was very proud you know he was really a pakka modern man suit, tie, briefcase drinks in his belly, he went out from that bar there he met one devotee shaved head and was wearing dhothi with a Gita and devotee gave him please take the Bhagavad Gita, no no I am not interested in all these things, what is this I have got Canada why do I need Gita for he said who is this person looks like a Indian Sadhu but he looks like he is definitely a Canadian white skin person, he said no no this is for you I brought this he said no, no, I can’t take it now I too busy whatever he just pushed off the devotee and went with his friend he went down the street ran into another cabin after a few hours they came out few more drinks and somehow again by Krishna’s arrangement that devotee was there on the street distributing oh sir I am still having the Gita saving for you he said you know sir you are a very great gentleman you see I want to give this Gita to you and whatever you give some donation you see all respect I am offering to you I am just humbly requesting you he thought you know here I am from Guyana this Canadian humbly requesting me he told he felt kind of proud a Canadian begging from me ok here take a few dollars and gave him put the Gita in his briefcase kind of walked off feeling happy that someone from the first world had begged from the third world he did not appreciate actually what was happening didn’t have any idea what was the value of what he just got as a devotee could care less he was thinking he was just trying to give mercy to the conditioned soul so humbly he is offering his humility was the weapon to get into his heart so by humility he conquered over. So the Gita sat on his shelf for a long time one day he was feeling really frustrated couldn’t figure why he wasn’t happy he was there in Canada he had so much money everything was there still he was not happy and somehow he took that Gita found it what is this opened it up and started reading when he started reading then he was amazed what is this all the answers to my questions were here then he looked in the bag and found the address for the near temple and then he went that day happened to be Nityananda appearance day in the temple in Toronto I believe so the big feast and kirtan he ended up doing kirtan for about five hours huge kirtan going on he couldn’t believe it was he was electrically charged then taking a big prasadam feast and so like after that end of the story he became a devotee made his whole family actually he was a family became a devotee he made his whole family a devotee he was a very active preacher made dozens and dozens of people devotees preached to them you have to read Gita all Guyanese in Toronto lot of big congregation they have so all this by taking one Bhagavad Gita, so he was perceiving things in particular way the devotee was thinking in another way, devotee was just thinking here is a spirit soul he is covered by all illusion how to get him to engage in Krishna’s service he is seeing things from his view point his bodily consciousness he is a Canadian here I am a Guyanese whatever in Canada he has his view point. That view point doesn’t matter view point can change any moment the transcendental view point is the actual view point which is eternal so here from Gita and Bhagavatam we can see what is the nature because of the mixture of the three modes because of the way people are perceiving things they are having different view point but the spiritual view point is one, if you want to have unity in the world if people come to the spiritual point of view there can be unity because that point of view is one, otherwise it gets bewildering you read the newspaper like for instance now everyone is very concerned about the Gulf war potential war this Sadam Hussain he has got his view point that view point other people they can’t figure out how a person can have such a view point especially the Europeans and Americans there view point is completely like inconceivable he is rationalizing everything he is doing from his particular view point and then other Arabs some people are for him that is also bewildering, some people are partially for and partially against some are totally against everybody has their different view point and of course politically you see all these people have different view point how to balance it, it becomes very complex because everyone has a particular way of seeing things so when they try to make peace they try to create a peaceful situation because everybody has their own particular view point it is very hard to get a common ground and this is why politics can never bring worldwide peace because as long as people are on that view point it is very hard to find a any kind of common ground where everyone will always agree with each other. When the people come to the transcendental platform then the view point is very easy to have a single even a slight difference of opinion on spiritual platform it doesn’t really matter we can agree to disagree on certain like we agree ok the Ramanujas think the Narayana is supreme we understand Krishna is the origin of Narayana this is the type of disagreement doesn’t really effect at least you are accepting that the supreme Lord is there which form he is there that is a minor point but there is one supreme Lord we have to serve him you accept this thing that Krishna is avatar of Narayana and you accept Narayana supreme we accept Narayana is the avatar of Krishna but we both worship Krishna and Narayana so no problem that we can adjust no problem some minor at least the same one Supreme Lord Vishnu tattva we are agreeing but if people don’t accept there is a Supreme they don’t accept that the real peace formula is to do “Bhokta yagnya tapasyam” to do all things should be offered for his satisfaction they won’t get any peace they will try to adjust this way that way this political interest there is bound to be different temporary there may be peace again another problem may come up the only way to have lasting peace is to establish God consciousness in the world not based on some sectarian view point then you have ok the Muslims think like this the Christians think like this that everyone has to come up beyond the sectarian view what is the absolute vision of God this is what Krishna consciousness is offering to the world the real solution to all the problems the real solution where people are they don’t they can’t understand how this could be the solution educate them if they could understand, understand what is the body what are the sixteen elements of the material world what are start to understand something about the universe then what is the laws of karma what is reincarnation eventually you come up what the actual position of God of the supreme personality then we can start to appreciate ok this is why this is the solution to everything because this is the proper that because we are forgetful of Krishna because we are all these different shades of material contamination to the three modes unless we bring people at least up to the mode of goodness at least the leader you are not going to have any kind of common ground in this age of kali to come up to the mode of goodness is very difficult come up to the transcendental mode that is actually easier by Lord Chaitanya’s mercy that automatically it includes goodness transcendental mode can combine everyone can unite everyone so this is the very interesting that the devotees are able to give a reply to every topic because from Krishna’s point of view everything is understandable from their point of view many things are not understandable but from the original absolute truth everything becomes understandable. The amazing thing is while Krishna is the supreme Lord he is in control of everything he is in the highest position at the same time he is just playing with his devotees very humble, very natural way exchanging loving exchanges with them, playing in the house of Sachi Mata & Jagganath Mishra Lord Chaitanya is giving them so much spiritual happiness, some devotees wants to serve the Lord so the Lord reciprocates and he becomes a perfect recipient of that devotees service that is his mellow is he has parental affection he becomes a perfect child just acting in such a way the parents are always having some to do with him baby, if somebody wants a perfect friend Krishna is the perfect friend any sentiment where you see some great courage, some great friendship, some great love, some great compassion. It inspires the motion the great novels, the great movies they try to bring out this great emotional situation that little essence of greatness of compassion or any type of emotion of love, of faith, of courage all these things are simply fraction of Krishna’s transcendental quality and in Krishna’s pastimes all of these great emotions are brought up brought out in there perfect and complete form so the devotees they don’t need to you see observe other, read other novels simply by absorbing in the pastimes of Krishna everything is there so this is therefore the best reading in the world most complete, most adventurous. Lord Chaitanya one day he was as a small child may be 3 or 4 playing with all his little friends they are playing in the forest around Nawadweep together in the courtyards of the little woods by the side of the Ganges all of a sudden few baby puppies came, you heard the story about Lord Chaitanya leaving the puppies and the Lord baby Nimai he saw the puppies and he said oh look at this beautiful puppies he picked one up and started to pet it all the little children came looking and he got very interested in the pets ah after a while all the childrens said ah and there mother started calling it is time for lunch so they all ran off we will see you later so then baby Nimai took a little rope he found tied it around the neck of the puppy he walked with the puppy back to his house then just he tied it outside the house on the bamboo and when he walked over to the house just as he was going to walk in mother Sachi walked by with her servant said I am going to the Ganges and I am just coming back you wait here, so she didn’t see the puppy she walked out and went straight to the Ganges and Lord Chaitanya went out and took his puppy and brought it inside the house he is playing with the puppy the mother little children they play with the animals they don’t know what clean what not clean they are not thinking anything so mother Sachi comes back there she sees in the courtyard little puppy dog Nimai playing oh! what is this dirty dog doing in my house areh you are a Brahmin boy you don’t know you shouldn’t be touching these dogs, dogs are dirty they are doing all kinds of dirty things ufh! the Lord grabbed and said no, no, this is my pet this is my puppy look at him so nice mother is thinking how to take this dog, if I just take the dog he will start crying and everything how to get rid of this dog, ok you have a puppy but keep it outside can’t be in the house. So Lord Chaitanya, little baby Chaitanya took out child his puppy and she said ok I will see that you just tie the puppy and take a bath in Ganges and come back its time for prasad. So then tied the puppy to the little post outside the house and he went off to the Ganges meanwhile the mother dog came by sniffing he saw the puppy so then mother said here is my chance un tie the puppy dogs go out of here quick. Lord Chaitanya came back he said my puppy where is my puppy he started crying and putting like a little playing perfect little child, mother said oh what happened oh your rascal friends they must have let the puppy loose how could they do such a thing he started crying I want my puppy back, then mother Sachi said ok don’t worry I will get you another puppy nothing to worry about just comforting Lord Chaitanya now come and take your lunch so then Lord Chaitanya as a child went and took his prasadam. Meanwhile that puppy went off with his mother to some other part of Nawadweep but having been embraced by Lord Chaitanya having been held by the Supreme Personality of God head in his most compassionate form he forgot his position as a puppy, he remembered his position as the eternal servitor of Radha & Krishna and he started to develop all kinds of ecstatic symptoms, he started to stand on his rear legs and held his hand up and Hari bol! Hari bol! Hari bol! Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna!, people were watching what is wrong with this dog jumping up and down tears are coming from his eyes Hari bol! Hari bol! The dog is feeling so much ecstasy so much separation he starts rolling on the ground Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna! Radha! Radha! Radha! People what is going on big crowd of people watching what happened to this dog you know jumping up on his, rolling down jumping up like some why you now actually the dog is completely overwhelmed in ecstasy simply by the touch of Lord Chaitanya all of a sudden the dog so much jumping, jumping bhoom he fell down everyone crowded looking …dead, died all of a sudden there was a sound rumaa rumaa rumaa sounds of kettle drums in the sky a haa u uh a haa u uh mantra’s and people looked up brilliant light they all ran back know they call it UFO unidentified flying object it was aircraft from another planet none of the planets from this material universe brilliant light was coming and then they saw this brilliant chariot golden effulgent lights all over illuminating you couldn’t see it was so brilliant and there it was attendance of a beautiful form of Vishnu Duttas and out from that dog came out the spark of the atma and he assumed a human like form also brilliantly effulgent and he entered and sat into the seat of the of that chariot and it fuuesh it went off and all the devas went alongside they couldn’t believe they were glorifying “how the Supreme Lord he just picked up a dog and simply by touching the dog he had achieved love of Krishna and he is going back to Goloka Vrindavan there is no avatar in the history all the avatar had such a mercy insignificant jiva bhuta in the undeveloped consciousness of a dog’s body touched by the Lord and he is going back to God head” as far as they followed they could go and then they couldn’t go any further, just glorifying Gaura Hari ! Gaura Hari! Jaya Gaura Hari Jaya golden avatar Nitai Gaura premanande Hari Hari bol! Then far beyond there sight beyond Indralok, beyond Brahmalok went that effulgent chariot taking the atma the pet, the blessing of being embraced by Lord Chaitanya went through the spiritual limit of this material world brahma jyothi, beyond the brahma jyothi, beyond Vaikunthaloka, Goloka Vrindavan, simply by the touch of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu you can get pure love of Krishna simply we can hear about his transcendental mercy and engage in his service then how we will be deprived from his mercy he is so merciful he doesn’t consider who is qualified or not everyone he can accept in his devotional service and simply by coming into his touch conditioned soul becomes purified so here in the material we can ,there are lot of people like that having animalistic consciousness what is the hope for them but somehow they come in the touch of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu simply by the touch they can achieve all perfection, simply by chanting Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare, Sri Krishna Chaitanya Prabhu Nityananda Sri Advaita Gadhadar Srivasadi Gaura Bhakta Vrinda, you can get unlimited mercy, taking Krishna prasadam, transcendental literature so there senses would be awakened, there spiritual vision would be returned this is the unconceivable mercy of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Hare Krishna, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu ke Jaya, Nityananda Prabhu ke jaya, Srila Prabhupada ke jaya. Hare Krishna Any questions? Translator has a question that I tried to explain day before yesterday in the class these two points are evidently contradictory but that in reality they are not at all contradictory because both of them are giving an allegorical explanation on what is happening it’s true that Krishna prema is dormant in every one but how to wake it wake up they say jeev jago, jeev jago Gaurachandra bole wake up wake up sleeping souls how long will you sleep on the lap of the witch maya, so that wakening process has been compared to planting the seed. Just like you plant a seed into the earth, that quality of growth is already there in the earth, if the quality of if you put a seed into the rock it is not going to grow you put a seed there has to be the that capacity too for the seed to grow, so whether you can consider actually the seed is there dormant someone is just adding that ingredients which makes it sprout or to just make it very easy to understand someone he is planting the seed but the capacity for the seed to grow is there lying dormant in the heart, actually these two contradict these are two different examples to show two different things. We have the capacity we have the capacity of loving Krishna within us, but in order to awaken that we need the mercy of Guru and Krishna, a puppy dog got the mercy of Krishna directly this is a very rare thing but generally we need the mercy of Guru by the mercy of Guru we get the mercy of Krishna, by mercy of Krishna we get Guru by mercy of Guru we get Krishna. Guru Krishna prasade paye bhakti lata bheej we said we get the seed of devotion, seed of devotion you can savour, it is already there in the heart, it may be there but it is inaccessible to us we can’t get at it where it is somewhere locked up somewhere there the Guru is the one who is opening that, Guru and Krishna’s mercy is opening up the key to that seed. So in effect they are also giving us the seed but where was the seed the seed was already there in our heart but they are the ones who took the seed and planted it otherwise it was just lying there dormant locked up in some corner of the heart where we couldn’t get at it, is that ok? Any kind of transcendental engagement is all transcendental all are on the same platform it all has an awakening potential of course you take a prasad and eat it it’s gone you hear the holy name you walk down the street you don’t even hear it any more, you are taking a book if he is fortunate enough to take the book and read it then he will have many hours of service which he will be doing, even if someone just reads Prabhupada said one line they open the book they just read a few words then also they get the blessing even if they don’t buy the book just read a few words that gives them unlimited sukriti, what to speak if they buy it take it home and leave it on the shelf. I saw in the bhagavat mahatyam it said that wherever bhagavatam is the devas go and offer there obeisance’s there, so their house becomes a tirtha simply by having the bhagavatam in some one’s home just like bringing a deity in there house that purifies the whole house in fact in North Eastern India there is some temples where the Guru he was just preaching to very simple people who were not very advanced in brhaminical culture so he decided not to install deities because there weren’t be able to worship the deities so nicely he thought, so what he did he had a big temple with a big kirtan hall and in the alter on the top he put the Srimad Bhagavatam, he would do arati to the Bhagavatam they would read from the Bhagavatam and put them back on the alter the whole temple was filled with Bhagavatam they do the harinaam and read the Bhagavatam this is the he is said to be a disciple of Advaita Goswami but we don’t have it very well documented they say like that but he made all the people in Assam into vaishnava his name is Shankar De he had brahman disciple Damodar De he had the deities but the non-brahmanas he had them worship the Bhagavatam and that is there worship able deity the Bhagavatam in the Bhagavat Mahatyam like Gita Mahatyam is also Bhagavat Mahatyam they glorified how the Bhagavatam wherever it is it becomes the place of pilgrimage so if someone takes Bhagavatam they get some a very special that is a very great service that they are doing but certainly if they hear the Hari naam they take prasadam they also has awakening effect. What it does it’s like someone is going off no connection with Krishna and you engage them in some service that brings them into Krishna orbit know they may be in a very distant orbit like some these comets they come by after 27 years, 100 years or 10 years they go come around like this and way out and they come around little bit and way out like the haley’s comet comes after so many 29 years or something 50 years only comet it is elliptical here they say the sun and the earth and the comet goes like this close and way out so some people there contact with Krishna consciousness may be like that very distant orbit sometimes they come little close and they go way out for a while and they come back but somehow they are in the orbit of Krishna because they have done service so what happens the more service they do then the orbit becomes closer and closer and closer until they become right into Krishna consciousness they are very tight orbit around Krishna so that way there spiritual life begins because it is bringing them know again and again be brought back to Krishna because they have done little service the result of that like the reaction for that is to bring them again back to serve Krishna so that every time they do service this increases more and more so that orbit become closer and closer until eventually they may get to do enough service that they can actually become a devotee or they can actually take the practice of Krishna consciousness so naturally we want people should not only read the books but they should also take prasadam they should also chant Hare Krishna and they should do all the activities and one thing helps the other someone takes prasad it makes him more inclined also to read the book, if someone reads the book it makes him inclined to come to the temple and take prasad so one services simply increases brings them closer and closer to fully awakening. Any other question? Our full of knowledge means up to our capacity we are always limited in our capacity we have the full knowledge we knew that we are the spirit soul and it doesn’t mean we know everything it doesn’t mean we are God we have all knowledge we don’t have all knowledge we have full up to our capacity, we knew that there is Krishna we knew that we are there, there are many different scenarios someone may know that the material world is a place of suffering but also we never had any experience of suffering we don’t have the full knowledge to the extent of we knew what suffering was, we never experienced we just there is some play thing called suffering which means something is not but it is very abstract what is suffering and somebody has some desire which is not in harmony with being in the spiritual world it can only be fulfilled in the material world and they end up here. Then they can experience what is material happiness and what is material suffering and then they want to go back to the spiritual world where there is only happiness no suffering and the that is why Krishna says “…..mahatmanam sam siddhim param gata” someone may fall down once, once they go back they don’t come again people don’t come back here again just like someone may not know what is fire they put their finger ough! Anytime you put fire before they get frightened right, animals are like that they may not know you burn them once after any time they see fire they get afraid once you get burned here in the material world you don’t want to come back again there you know you may have some knowledge about, you don’t have knowledge what is in the material world that you will know once you are in the spiritual world you can only know by coming here so like that innocently or somehow or other someone may make that mistake we given that independence fully if we could understand exactly how it is we are there how we can fall down then we have to go back there to understand know here everything we are seeing everything we are understanding through our unlimited mind and intelligence which is hardly able to understand the material world what to speak of the spiritual world. In order to understand how we fall down we have to get back to our spiritual consciousness back to that liberated vision then we can easily know this is what happened right know we have no access to know exactly because we cant get that perspective we are trying to understand from a very limited perspective what is like to be a liberated soul by definition we are not going to get the exact understanding but categorically we can understand that generally we don’t know about what is suffering because we have no experience therefore we have type of complete knowledge but not complete like Krishna we don’t know everything we don’t know what is like in a material world, we don’t know all the future but we have knowledge about God we have knowledge about our self we have knowledge of our relationship we may also make mistake we are given that independence that if we want we cannot serve Krishna, that independence is always there if it wasn’t there, there would be no value to our serving Krishna it won’t be pleasing to Krishna, everyone would be a robot they just have to do it, he has to give them independence to make it interesting he knows everyone has got that independence and therefore on their own free will they are serving him. If they don’t won’t to serve him directly, they can go, they don’t have to that the question of love comes in, then the emotion, love that relationship has some value. So in order to bring that value or having voluntary service and love the negative side of that is that it also someone may choose not to serve by innocent mistake or by someone just thinks I wonder what it is like to be the Lord have everybody serve me some devotee may thought may come in your mind any thought could come in your mind ok want to find out there you go woosh become a Brahma you create the whole universe, from Brahma you get little contaminated you become Indra then gradually you fall down, down, down before you know it you are a flea, a worm in somebody’s stool you can back up again you become a human being lets get out of this place lets go back to home then once you go back you don’t come here again forget it I want to serve the Lord I had enough of being the Lord there is only one Lord we are all his servants. Any more questions, Mataji’s any question another translator, Raghunath Das Goswami had answered this question you had asked you want to translate the question to the people you are translating for, Raghunath Das Goswami answered this question he said we should approach the Lord in the mood of a dasya we should approach as servitor serving the Guru, serving Krishna in the service attitude this is like looking at the lotus feet of Krishna so it is said that as we are doing our devotional service trying to serve Krishna as a servitor, Krishna will come he will grab us we are looking at his lotus feet and Krishna comes he gave us the example he will grab us by the chin and he will lift up our face up to the point that our rasa is up to the face it is conjugal if it up to part way then parental love sakhya according to our relationship he will bring us up to that point according to how we shouldn’t approach just looking ok I must be a Gopi so I will approach like that, he should approach as a servitor then whatever our will be our rasa up to that point. Krishna will fill us up to that and there we will be happy fully satisfied it is not that Subhal sakha was dissatisfied being a friend of Krishna he wanted to be a gopi something like that so everyone was perfectly happy in there own relationship by Krishna’s arrangement any devotee they can experience different type of love for Krishna even Krishna himself although he is the Lord he also experience what was it like to love Krishna as one of his devotee that he did it in Chaitanya pastime so every even opposite are able to be how you say all opposites are compromised or adjusted in the absolute world like Krishna’s mercy we should approach it from the point of view of servitor ship in the material world we serve the Guru with awe and reverence as servitor ship when we are in this spiritual world and the Guru is introducing us into Krishna’s pastime introducing us to whoever will be our guide for our particular service to Krishna depending on our rasa at that time the relationship is much more friendly awe and reverence is not there but like an old friend senior friend and while we are in the material world we serve in a respectful attitude Hare Krishna Srimad Bhagavat Granthraj ke jaya Chaitanya Nityananda Mahaprabhu ke jaya, Jagganath Baladev Subadra Maharani ke jaya, Srila Prabhupada ke jaya.
