The following is a class given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on May 6th 2009 in Coimbatore India the class begins with the reading from Bhagavad Gītā Chapter 18 verse 65

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānanda-mādhavam śrī caitanya īśvaram

Śrīmad Bhagavad-gīta Chapter 18 Text 65

man-manā bhava mad-bhakto
mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru
mām evaiṣyasi satyaṁ te
pratijāne priyo ’si me

Translation: Always think of Me, become My devotee, worship Me and offer your homage unto Me. Thus you will come to Me without fail. I promise you this because you are My very dear friend.

Purport: The most confidential part of knowledge is that one should become a pure devotee of Kṛṣṇa and always think of Him and act for Him. One should not become an official meditator. Life should be so molded that one will always have the chance to think of Kṛṣṇa. One should always act in such a way that all his daily activities are in connection with Kṛṣṇa. He should arrange his life in such a way that throughout the twenty-four hours he cannot but think of Kṛṣṇa. And the Lord’s promise is that anyone who is in such pure Kṛṣṇa consciousness will certainly return to the abode of Kṛṣṇa, where he will be engaged in the association of Kṛṣṇa face to face. This most confidential part of knowledge is spoken to Arjuna because he is the dear friend of Kṛṣṇa. Everyone who follows the path of Arjuna can become a dear friend to Kṛṣṇa and obtain the same perfection as Arjuna.

These words stress that one should concentrate his mind upon Kṛṣṇa – the very form with two hands carrying a flute, the bluish boy with a beautiful face and peacock feathers in His hair. There are descriptions of Kṛṣṇa found in the Brahma-saṁhitā and other literatures. One should fix his mind on this original form of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa. One should not even divert his attention to other forms of the Lord. The Lord has multiforms as Viṣṇu, Nārāyaṇa, Rāma, Varāha, etc., but a devotee should concentrate his mind on the form that was present before Arjuna. Concentration of the mind on the form of Kṛṣṇa constitutes the most confidential part of knowledge, and this is disclosed to Arjuna because Arjuna is the most dear friend of Kṛṣṇa’s.

Jayapatākā Swami: Hare Kṛṣṇa. man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru. So Kṛṣṇa said to think of him to bow down at him, to worship him, to pay obeisances unto him and in this way, it is almost guaranteed to go back to Kṛṣṇa in the spiritual world. The devotees of Kṛṣṇa beg for Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa and except for the Vrajavāsīs they are constantly thinking of Lord Kṛṣṇa they don’t think of … one time Kṛṣṇa he hid himself taking the four handed form looking like Nārāyaṇa nobody thought he was Kṛṣṇa they saw Nārāyaṇa and offered their obeisances. He told where is Kṛṣṇa I am, when Rādhārāṇī came, he couldn’t keep his four hand he came back in two hand form so this shows the great love that Rādhārāṇī has for Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa cannot hide himself. So, the gopīs seeing Nārāyaṇa they are not interested they only want to see Kṛṣṇa so we must follow in the footsteps of the gopīs and the Vrajavāsīs. Lord Caitanya said that if all the devotees the Vrajavāsīs are divided of the most intimate so that is why while worshipping Kṛṣṇa we follow in the footsteps of the gopīs and Vrajavāsīs and in this way we want to please Kṛṣṇa our true friend Kṛṣṇa and so when we have one time a deity than they have Kṛṣṇa dancing in front of the procession fully dressed as Kṛṣṇa because this is …., that all the incarnations emanate from Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa is everything. So, we can see Kṛṣṇa in one of the most famous temples in Kerala it is the Guruvayur temple there is a deity of Lord Kṛṣṇa so morning they do the worship starting in the morning by doing ārati and in the evening time read the Bhagavad-gītā so some devotees went there and offered some pūjā unto him and they told one pastime that there was some I don’t know priest or said that Kṛṣṇa played found the truth that is in Kṛṣṇa-līlā he used to play in front of the temple but … so the deities came in the priest dream and have him do that so he could not resist doing the drama so we are enjoying the drama the whole līlā. So we are very fortunate to be here in this śikṣālaya at least the head of the captain he is very much a devotee and he goes to Guruvayur and various temples in Kerala and he offered me to stay there he offered me a temple president so it is nice to have devotees he is also a doctor and he was there for long hours during the operation and is here to take care of me. There is a very special deity of Kṛṣṇa and there is Hanuman kumkum. Hanuman is best in kumkum all colorful so one day Hanuman asked Sītā why do you put kumkum she said to please Rāma, so if Rāma is pleased by a little kumkum on the forehead and he covered himself with kumkum to please Lord Rāma so that is how he covered himself with kumkum because he was innocent he was a very simple devotee he wants to please Rāma, Lord Rāma, if you have any questions … internet we can take questions in English and Spanish if you have any questions you can write them, any questions yes ok Durban South Africa who is performing harināma poor attendance to harināma poor, very poor, poor attendance. Lord Caitanya was preaching so much and kīrtana was very special it Is the yuga-dharma for chanting

Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare
Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare

so chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra is to please the Lord and it benefits the other listening souls who are close to the chanting of the holy name the, once Haridāsa Ṭhākura was asked which type of chanting was more effective more pleasing to God, silent chanting or loud chanting. He was saying it is silent chanting isn’t it and then Haridāsa Ṭhākura said no it is actually the loud chanting of the holy name, by chanting loudly all the plants, birds, insects, animals and human they all hear the holy name and they all benefit chanting should be as such offence less to the holy name so I think most of it is due to our offenses so the duty is to participate in the chanting of

Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare
Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare

so like this if we explain the glories of chanting of the holy name than we can request  everyone to naturally participate the class should be scheduled as such everyone can attend. Thank you for tuning in.

The Bhagavad-gītā was spoken by Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa is speaking to his friend Arjuna. Uddhava is also a friend of Kṛṣṇa and so Kṛṣṇa has been with him…. So in this way he was a friend of Kṛṣṇa. I don’t know why śāstra would be considered poison. It only says that the nectar of Kṛṣṇa if spoken by a non-devotee milk turn to poison apart from that there is no mention of scriptures become poison that I know, if scriptures are quoted by a non-devotee they can kill like… Mīrābāi was a great devotee of Kṛṣṇa so it shows how she did various devotional services to Kṛṣṇa …. So than she merged into Kṛṣṇa…. serving Kṛṣṇa eternally so hearing from a Non-devotee the nectar of Kṛṣṇa’s pastime can become like a poison because they can twist everything around and add a chapter or essential text so Instead of realizing Kṛṣṇa is here you kind of get a distorted view points… the devotees don’t want to merge into Kṛṣṇa. Hanuman…. he said I don’t want anything to come in my way of your understanding and my understanding this is the nature of a devotee of Kṛṣṇa they don’t want to merge into Kṛṣṇa… they want to serve Kṛṣṇa eternally. Thank you. Bhakta Sundar Rajan kī Jaya!

Question: How can a family man balance his life, spiritual and material life?

Jayapatākā Swami: See you must encourage him to have a Kṛṣṇa conscious family so that some of his time would be dedicated between husband and wife to serving Kṛṣṇa together this is the nature of a Kṛṣṇa conscious gṛhastha life that …. Once came to Prabhupāda and he was stirring in the pot with a stick pouring some til, some sesame seed or something and told him you know what this stick is called it is called a mini daṇḍa, it is called a wooden stick. Normally all the gṛhamedhīs they are always going round, round and round the wooden is the center the gṛhasthas are united together they engage in Kṛṣṇa’s service and go around Kṛṣṇa together so everyone has to sit down the husband and wife has to sit down and discuss how many days do we spend in the temple, how days do we go to theatre, how much time we go shopping they make a plan how they are going to balance their spiritual and material responsibilities and I now some gṛhasthas they have some children so one of the parents sit home with their kids for their studies and go for some Nāmahaṭṭa preaching so like this they are different from and sharing of responsibilities between husband and wife in Kṛṣṇa consciousness … so I was listening that  Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura was asked what is the most important thing for a gṛhastha, he said the most important thing is to make is to make the soul Kṛṣṇa conscious whatever obstacle at every step we hope that Kṛṣṇa conscious gṛhasthas out there will serve together and work as a team to focus on how they can please Kṛṣṇa. Hare Kṛṣṇa. Jagannātha is Kṛṣṇa…. so, when Lord Caitanya would see Lord Jagannātha in the temple in Jagannātha Puri…. so, we should see Jagannātha like that Sri Kṛṣṇa we will not have any difficulty on meditation on Sri Kṛṣṇa or Jagannātha.

Kalyani, Hare Kṛṣṇa Kalyani! There is no harm in offering respects to Vaiṣṇavas. Those who are senior Vaiṣṇavas can be offered respect and those who are juniors can be given benediction. It is very good idea. In the Govinda festival, it was told by Advaita Gosāñī...  Nityānanda he wanted to bathe the feet of all the Vaiṣṇavas, so Nityānanda seeing the Vaiṣṇavas he wanted the service to bathe feet and some and putting the candana and he wanted to bathe their feet so it is quite acceptable to offer respects to the Vaiṣṇavas. So Kṛṣṇa was offering respects to his cousin brothers according to their age apart from that Arjuna was like of the same age as Kṛṣṇa and Yudhiṣṭira was also a friend of Kṛṣṇa he was a friend but he was being offered respect, so although Kṛṣṇa was offering Yudhiṣṭira respect, Yudhiṣṭira offered Kṛṣṇa respect, Kṛṣṇa was the supreme personality of Godhead and he loved Kṛṣṇa at the same time he was his equal …in Vraja-dhāma where not all respect Kṛṣṇa since they are Sri Kṛṣṇa’s equal and so at the same time we have Yudhiṣṭira  where he sees Kṛṣṇa as a not only as equal but as a person who must be offered respect so we should consider this as supreme friendship, a friendship with respect friendship which is accepted. So different devotees have different kinds of relationship with Kṛṣṇa. So Kṛṣṇa was offering respect to his relatives same time. It was reciprocated in a particular way Sri Kṛṣṇa kī Jai Rādhā-Mādhava kī Jaya. Ādi Karta Dāsa, Candramukhī Subhadrā and the baby Buddhi… all the blessings, Kṛṣṇe matir astu! So it is day time here in the morning I have take my shower, chant my mantras. I take some prasādam and then I have a therapy on my head first of all for the facial what you call it? Muscles. Then we have a physiotherapy. It is little slower. Again, I take rest in the afternoon again I have physiotherapy after I have hot milk. Then I take a shower. Then come to this class, meet a few devotees and take dinner so the day is fully packed up and we are going into the last week of the therapy here I will see what the doctor says of the therapy in this last week. I was speaking that today will be the last day of the 28 days hat I have to participate in the program in Māyāpur. This year I am trying to concentrate on my health so that I will be able to continue doing service therapy so I am going to continue with this physiotherapy until I head out to the middle east and to the west and it is left with me to be decided which therapy, I should take next I want to take the active therapy. It is favorite of mine and let’s see after that I don’t know exactly what is next. I took the emergency treatment it was in Hinduja hospital we took some physiotherapy at the Bhaktivedanta hospital and then know here for the Ayurvedic therapy next comes the acupuncture therapy and we continue with the physio I am hoping that acupuncture will be successful thereby have my bending will be solved and also my physiotherapy will be done by Babu and Govinda Das especially the Ayurvedic will take to some devotees on the internet see if we can ask a few question on getting some association. And on the 8th I will head to the temple for special darśana to see Nṛsiṁhadeva than to Ahobilam from there by ship I come back here on the 12th than on the 13th the plan is to shift over to ISKCON temple beginning of the physiotherapy and then somewhere around 23rd to 25th of this month plan to go to Puri.

Hare Kṛṣṇa! Thank you very much.
